The science behind this very complicated issue is clearly laid out in a manner simple enough for everyone to understand, yet complicated enough to satisfy doctors.I believe that this book should be required reading for anyone with an interest in the topic - which includes anyone and everyone who takes part in health care. This issue is not going to go away. In fact, it is going to become more and more important as science progresses.I wish I could give the book 10 stars. Bravo, Ms. Schneider and Dr. Goldstein!!

This book should be entitled: "Embryonic Stem Cells for Dummies" because it only tells half of the story and omits the other half: Adult Stem Cells, and in particular how Autologous Stem Cell treatment using a patients own stem cells can work and are being used now, both in the US and internationally. If you are interested in a primer on Embryonic Stem Cells and research involving Embryonic Stem Cells, and the hoped for possibilities of future treatments (far far in the future) using Embryonic Stem Cells, then this is the book for you, and there is no question that the authors are certainly experts in the topic of embryonic stem cells. I bought this book to teach my son about stem cells because somewhere it said this was a "balanced" text, but it is not balanced at all and the authors, deeply entrenched in the "Embryonic Stem cells are better then adult stem cells" camp, present a disappointing one sided view of the field. Like I said above, the title is wrong. And for sure, if you are a potential patient as opposed to someone with academic curiosity this book is for sure not for you.But for knowledge of embryonic stem cells, it is an authoritative text.

Was super helpful for my research paper on ethical setbacks regarding stem cell research. The terms aren't as scientific as some of the other books out there so it was easier to read through and have a deeper understanding without having tons of background knowledge.

Enjoyed it greatly. Not too techie, so good for people like me with little science or medical learning. Some 'repeating', but not all that bad.

Great introductory book on Stem Cells. Perfect for a person looking for a basic understanding of the different types of cells and the basic techniques to create different stem cells.

Ghost Rider is one of those iconic, yet little known characters of Marvel. If you didn't read the comic, he really didn't have too many cross-overs as the other heros (sure their was marvel team-up, new fantastic four, etc) but compared to the Avengers, X-men, Punisher, etc. he really flew under the radar. With the movie coming out I think it warranted a visual guide by DK - and I feel they did not disappoint. Again, they managed to get an INCREDIBLY amount of information into this book. In usual DK fashion, the color & images are great, they touch on practically every aspect of Ghost Rider (movie included) and lay it out in such a way that you can jump around without having the need to do it chronologically.I have collected all the superhero DK Visual Guides and haven't been disappointed yet.

Ghost Rider the visual guide, is another in DK's outstanding visual guide series to superheros in the dc and marvel universes. This is an amazing guide to a truly unique in-depth fiery character. The book cover's the 2007 movie which was and still is in my view exceptionally good for it's time now and still does the character itself in it's story line justice. Despite being a B-class character in the Marvel Universe, Ghost Rider has always fascinated me for his distinctive look of a ferocious flaming skull headed demon riding a flaming motorcycle. How could you go wrong with such striking visual. Despite the weak premise and misfires in several comic book incarnations, I find myself not being able to resist the appeal of the iconic visuals.This book chronologically explores the many developments of Ghost Rider (minus the 60's western incarnation). From a humble beginning of the modern day version (the 70's) to the current leap into a major live action film (2007).Highly recommended for fans of Ghost Rider.

In spite of the small print in this compact book (which often made me squint), this is a surprisingly fascinating read into the world of Marvel's favorite supernatural vigilante. Aside from some apparent turns in the comic book (Ghost Rider's brief stint with the short-lived "Champions" team, for example), this book exhaustingly covers all...from the real world to the Underworld to everything in-between. How much the series has explored the concepts of demonic warfare & mysticism deeply has adversely affected the existence of GR. GR has undergone many changes, both in character & appearance: Sometimes, a compassionate heart beats under the demonic exterior, and other times, he is purely brutal.An excellent treatment of Old Flamehead, and a great read for all!

I love this story and have given it as gift several times. It is a children’s folklore book that won the Caldecott Honor Book award. The book is based on an Ashanti tale about a spider who has a human life personality and has six sons. Each son has their own ability, and use their individual ability to help their father and ultimately thee family is safe and happy.I especially liked how each character has its own shape in the illustration, its own special skill, and the lesson that while we are all different we all have something special to contribute.

This is a wonderful Anansi story. It's easy to read aloud to kids and it really engages their imaginations and introduces them to the character.I bought it to supplement the European and Alaskan Native folk and fairy tales in my preschool classroom for our storytelling theme. The kids loved it and it was always in rotation during quiet time and free play. At Home my own children were glad to see it back after the theme, and my 6yo has taken to acting the story out with his stuffed animals.

There is so much useful information packed into this book: instructions, examples, tips. Mr. Shaw invites you to come along with him to stunning photos, in a way that makes it all accessible to all. And the photos are simply breathtaking!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The information is comprehensive and well-organized, with helpful illustrations and gorgeous photos.

I was disappointed in the book. Given its size and cost I figured it would cover in great detail the processing of images in Photoshop. All it says are some general phrases like "blend in Photoshop". I covers planning very well and perhaps it should be titled Planning Landscape Astrophotography. What I need is what to do with multiple exposures of both the stars and the foreground and how to bring them together.

Too much astronomy, not enough photography.

If you're looking to pick up a great book covering every aspect of astrophotography, this book is THE one-stop shop for beginners and veterans alike.My first impression when I got this book in the mail was the sheer size. Upon paging quickly through the book, I was quite impressed to see the wide array of subject matter Mike covers. As someone who has been shooting landscape astrophotos, I was very impressed to see the depth of the subjects Mike takes you through.While large, the book isn't overbearing. It's very easy to read and Mike does a wonderful job keeping you engaged with the very expansive subjects that encompass astrophotography. Mike does a brilliant job covering the basics and explaining the various equipment, lenses, locations, applications, and software that uses and recommends. Once the basics are covered, he takes you into more challenging shots and subject matter. He covers moon photography, star trails, photographing the aurora, the Milky Way and so much more.I literally could not put this book down and have since tabulated mine. I'm actually in the second round of reading my copy and hope to have it read through a second time as the Milky Way core season approaches.If there's every one book to read, and your looking to get into landscape astrophotography, this is it. If you ever have any questions about the book or the subject matter, Mike is wonderful to talk with!

Dr. Michael C. Shaw asked to include one of my images in his expansive book (see page 399). The book is chock full of eye popping images from some of the best Landscape Astrophotographers I know or have ever heard of. But that's not the best part! Mike covers nearly all the topics I've covered over years and years in workshops, my blog and classes and he does so VERY well.The book has copious illustrations and the writing is enthusiastic, and comprehensive. It seems to be impossible to cover EVERYTHING on the subject but Dr. Shaw has just about done that. Here some examples that you'll find in the book:- Curious what that green (or red) glow in the sky is in your photo (and you know it's not the aurora borealis) see page 59.- Want to know why after midnight and before dawn is the best time to catch a meteor shower? (illustration 7.4, page 98)- Want to determine what exposure(s) will capture the Milky Way? (page 177)- Would you like help planning to capture a great image? (Chapter 16, pp 236-256)- Want to know about tools and apps for planning shots - Chapter 17.- Need to clean your lens or sensor? (pp 300-305)...And much more.Certainly you'll also find information about Timelapses, Star trails, Milky Way seasonality, the moon, light painting, color, human visual perception, camera optics and even how to compose and adjust your images.The list of important, fun, and useful topics is long. While covering these topics, Dr. Shaw maintains a scholarly and scientific view but with a light touch so you are not likely to become lost in terminology. Even though I've been doing Landscape Astrophotograpy quite a long time, there are definitely some gems that I picked up. For example page 138 has an illuminating chart comparing light from different sources.A nitpick is that near the center of the book - chapter 15 (pp 209-236) - there are no page numbers so references in the index make those items harder to find... but the book DOES have an index! It's surprising how few books do that these days. The index turns a great book into a great REFERENCE book.IN SUMMARYI find the book eminently useful, fascinating, illuminating and well thought out.DISCLOSUREI received a free copy because of the inclusion of one of my photographs, but I was NOT asked to write a review - I did so because I am impressed. This is a GREAT book.WHO AM I?I was the Royal Observatory, Greenwich's Astronomy Photographer of the Year in 2010, and runner up in 2012. My images have appeared in national and international publications and I have taught hundreds of classes to thousands of students.

A superb compilation of techniques for shooting the twilight and night sky, with the emphasis on still image "nightscapes." This is the best reference to the topic in print. Buy it! The book is particularly strong on explaining how the sky works and how to plan shoots to contain the Milky Way, and to use moonlight for illumination. Too many other books and tutorials on the subject – and their authors – fail to understand or explain the sky, but knowing how the sky moves and where celestial subjects will be is essential knowledge for great shots. A great section covers planning apps and software. The book also has tremendous information on setting exposures for various subjects and styes of images. Highly recommended!

Anders has an amazing writing ability. The characters, plot, mood, and historical background were all perfect!Her characters’ dialogue is filled with beauty, humor, wisdom and humanity. I just loved the evolution of Alex and Abigail. Their stories were so poignant and beautiful!This book has everything: love, romance, some sadness, and a highly enjoyable plot. No silly misunderstandings here.I just loved it, and it is one of my new favorites! I didn’t want it to end!

Annabelle Anders continues to write compelling stories in which both our heroes and heroines have flaws. Yes, there is the expected happily ever after, but you can be assured the characters face challenges and grow as humans as the story progresses. Alex and Abigail both faced unspeakable loss, dealing with it in polar opposite fashion. In finding each other, they both find a way to live again.

It took me no time to love these two main characters. Took longer to love the Duke of Ice, but I finally understood him. Good storyline. Just bought it & am rereading it. Thank you, Annabelle Anders. You are now also one of my favorite authors.

I'm at 5th grade teacher who read Ghost to my class earlier this school year. The kids ate it up, and literally begged for me to read more. I have just finished Patina. My students haven't even read it yet! And I truly think it's even better than Ghost!Patty is totally relatable to kids (boys and girls) of any race. Though, I really think it's notable that this is a book with a female of color as the main character. I usually really have to search to HARD find such refreshing, entertaining and thought-provoking writing.I love Jason Reynolds!

I'm a middle school language arts teacher, and my kids are in love with JA's track series. After reading GHOST, they BEGGED me to read PATINA. I will end the school year reading this book with them. (Although some have already devoured it. And I should mention these are "reluctant" readers.) I feel in love with Reynolds characters. If he ever quits his writing gig--which I hope he NEVER does--he could be a family counselor without obtaining a degree. He gets families and the complicated, messy relationships that make up this social unit that we all crave, need, and often pull our hair out over. Families, like the fictional ones in Reynold's books, aren't perfect and they come in different flavors. PATINA gives readers hope: they too can navigate life within a complex, imperfect, broken, and beautifully unique family. Thanks, Jason Reynolds, for writing books kids love and relate too.

Wonderful story of strength and struggle - personal, emotional, physical...The characters in these books are incredible, each personality so well presented with detail that makes them real and love able.

I really liked Ghost.. but i loved Patina.. and i am 82 my 56 year old daughter loved it too.. guess it is a timeless read,, ca..

Essential purchase for middle grade classrooms and libraries along with the previous title in the TRACK series - GHOST.

After reading Ghost I immediately read Patina, there is no way to visualize Patty's life from the first book and I thought that was intriguing because it reminds me of a lot of the trauma of being in high school great book crazy ending.

Patina is a great sequel to Ghost. The book will send you laughing through the front door and straight to a track meet
