From the Back Cover

Marilyn Monroe had a unique relationship with the press—the photographers, journalists, and columnists who followed her every move, helped carefully craft her public image, and made her one of the greatest stars in Hollywood history. Photographically, Marilyn was at her most electrifying at public events. She was as spectacular in the posed candids of press photographers as in studio portraits or on the movie screen. She made any news photo a work of art simply by being in it, and more than any other star lived up to the promise of her screen image. One of the most publicized actresses of her time, Marilyn actively sought out the press—which included the famous journalists and columnists Walter Winchell, Edward R. Murrow, Hedda Hopper, Louella Parsons, Earl Wilson, Pete Martin, Sidney Skolsky, Elsa Maxwell, and Dorothy Kilgallen. It was a mutually beneficial relationship that lasted her entire career. In Marilyn: In The Flash, acclaimed photographic preservationist David Wills brings together an unprecedented trove highlighting the work of some of the great press photographers and photojournalists of the twentieth century. This stunning collection includes many unpublished images (most beautifully restored from original prints, negatives, or transparencies), vintage magazine articles, original press clippings and press photo captions, behind-the-scenes notes, and photographic ephemera chronicling the media's lifelong love affair with Marilyn.Featuring a foreword by Marilyn's friend and costar Robert J. Wagner, original interviews and recollections, retrospective quotes from key journalists, columnists, press agents, photographers, and others, this portfolio of images offers a fresh, indelible portrait of one of the most enduring icons in history and illuminates the special alliance she shared with the press as never before.

This book should be given 10 stars. I am blown away by this monster 256 heavy stock paper book. There are some photos that we are all familiar with but there are tons more that haven't been seen anywhere before, and I should know since I have almost every Marilyn photo book ever printed. There is a minimum of text (20 page intro) so it is just page after page of glorious color as well as black and white photos and magazine covers. I highly recommend this book for all Marilyn fans.

Surprised how much I love this book. It's basically a cross between Wills' "Metamophosis" and Stacy Eubank's "Holding A Good Thought."This book tracks Marilyn's life from her beginnings as a cover girl to her last public appearance at Dodger stadium through photos, covers, and clippings. Really a must have for any Marilyn fan!My only complaint is that it's not longer. It will suck you in and make you wish for 500 more pages. The pictures are masterfully restored and there are some rare ones! I know what I'll be buying my Marilyn friends for Christmas!

"MARILYN MONROE. A LIFE FROM BEGINNING TO END" Copyright by Hourly History. Made in USA, Middletown, DE, 28 December 2018.

Dustjacket is sturdy and embossed, red cloth on hardcover. The images are printed beautifully on thick paper. There were a lot of images that I had never seen of Marilyn and I own dozens and dozens of photo books on her. There are also some interesting quotes on her. Most of the book is made of pictures, but there are about 10-15 pages of text only.I highly recommend this book to any Marilyn Monroe lover. The price is very good, even when not discounted.

Very good read! Sometimes books about icons like Marilyn get repetitive, but this book is full of new info I've never read. It explains a bit about how the press portrayed her and also how her relationship members of the press worked. She really hated unwelcome paparazzi snaps! Lol inner she would probably hate the celeb culture these days.

so very worth every penny spent on it..

Great pics.

Another beautiful book about Marilyn by David Wills! It is a welcome addition to my collection. It is amazing how even today, so many decades after her death, the lovely images of Marilyn still abound in popular culture.
