This is NOT a book for beginners. If you are new to Linux, forget this book since it is too technical without explaining the basics of the OS. I was expecting to learn about the file system, but even though I am not new to Linux, this book is more for an advanced user.

It should be clearly understood that this is all about command line use.This is NOT the book you want to learn about desktop Linux.

Comprehensive and a great introduction to Linux. Note: if you already have Jason's Udemy course (with the same name), you'll find that the book is identical to the lessons in that online course. Discovered this when the book arrived (I'm keeping it anyway). Recommended.

Jason's book is a great introduction to Linux, giving you just what you need to get started at the command line without overwhelming you with details and minutiae. The book is an easy read and you can follow along with your own terminal. I spent a few hours reading the book and trying things out on my own Linux machine, having a blast as I went. I recommend this book as you get started on your Linux journey!

If you're new to getting started with Linux command line then this book for his good for you.

Really good overview of the Linux environment, basics ins and outs and so forth. Great companion to the course on Udemy / Linux Training Academy as well.

Haven't finished it, but can say that it's totally "user-friendly" -- clear, concise, and I'm confident I'll learn what I need to learn!

This author does himself a real disservice claiming that this is for beginners. I have no confidence in him and will look elsewhere for instruction.

For several years, he plans what he'll take on his journey, but he is too young to make the trek alone, and his sisters and mother repeatedly fall back on their promises to accompany him. On the eve of Desta's seventh birthday and his rite of passage into adulthood, his father, Abraham, reveals the duties that will now be expected of him; aside from his new grown-up responsibilities of tending animals and helping with harvests, Desta and his niece, Astair, have been tasked with contacting the spirits with the assistance of a sorcerer, Deb'tera Taye to ask for help in resolving his sister Saba's inability to conceive and carry a son to term. Desta's real troubles begin when a cloudlike man appears to him during the spiritual ceremony, providing instructions for Abraham and his family that will further anger Desta's brothers and turn them even more vehemently against him. To make matters worse, many in the community laugh at the boy and scorn him for what they suspect are wild imaginings. Ambau's deft descriptions of spiritual happenings and ancient blessings transport the reader to another time and place that almost seamlessly alternates between the magical world of the cloud man--stippled with dots and tinged with gold; and the despairing reality of a little boy who suffers brutal beatings at the hands of those he loves. Readers may wonder what caused the abrupt shift in Abraham's character when he whips the boy mercilessly, since the author has shown us a gentle and compassionate father to this point. One might also wonder at the quickness with which young Desta puts the affair behind him, as he later does again when slighted by his father at a family feast. Throughout, Ambau shows us a boy who is perhaps unusually resilient and abundantly forgiving of his father, yet real enough to be mightily challenged in his attempts to forgive his bullying brothers. Desta's strength and tenacity in this first volume will entice many readers to eagerly anticipate the next installment of the young boy's journey and the continuation of his family's saga.

I just finished Desta vol.1 & ordered vol.2 I wish I got both at the same time. I want to thank the writer for this beautiful story I laughed , cried & ached with Desta I can't wait to read his journey finding the sun.

My daughter is from Ethiopia and I am reading everything I can get my hands on about the country. I enjoyed this book immensely, but more for insight into the Ethiopian culture than for the story line. I appreciate realistic plots, so toward the end found it a bit ridiculous, however it did intrigue me, and I will purchase the sequel when available.

I was a Peace Corps teacher in Bahar Dar, Ethiopia from 1967 to 1969. Desta is an accurate and beautifully written description of the land, the people, and the culture of that part of Ethiopia where I lived. Reading this book gave me many wonderful memories of my experiences in that very unique country. This book allows you to feel the emotions of the characters, and almost "see" the world in which they live. By all means, read this book and learn about a very different and beautiful people.

Let me get this out of the way: I hated Wesley Crusher. Deep and burning passion of loathing? I had it. Here was this kid, younger than I was, taking screen time away from the magnificent Captain Picard. Saving the ship. Putting the ship in danger and then saving it. Piloting the ship. There was apparently a group who were rooting for seeing him go out an airlock, and I would have joined it – and, yes, it was in some part jealousy, because I was a young and rabid Trekkie and here was this kid, younger than I was… But it was also some poor writing, of the sort that inevitably created antipathy for this kid. It had little if anything to do with Wil Wheaton's really quite adept portrayal, but there was no wonder that I was far from alone in hating Wesley Crusher.Unfortunately, others in that group were more vocal than I ever was, and Wil Wheaton knew all about how much how many people loathed Wesley Crusher. And, even more unfortunately and nonsensically, him. That'll have an effect on anyone – and especially an intelligent, sensitive, earnest teenaged boy who sees his future as that-guy-who-used-to-be-on-that-show writ large in a kind of pathetic Star Trek font. It – and other factors – made him walk away from Hollywood for a few years, and from Trek for a decade.What this book is all about, and why it kept me up till oh crap, is that the time?! and why my respect for Wil Wheaton is greater than I ever could have anticipated, is his (insert less clichéd word than "journey" here) from the bitterness and hurt and anger stemming from Being Wesley Crusher and trying (and painfully failing) to resuscitate his acting career … to a mature and rather joyful reconciliation with his past, and new and optimistic plan for the future.The subtitle promises that the book is unflinchingly honest - and it feels like it is. Wil made an ass of himself on several occasions, and he owns to it - and owns it. He is scathing about those who have hurt him (sometimes, diplomatically, without naming names, but really how hard is it to look up the fact that Stuart Baird was the "dick" who directed Star Trek: Nemesis?), and unstinting with his affection for his family and his Trek "family" (though I can't help feeling the latter don't deserve it. At all). He's snarky, and funny, and not afraid to admit that even some of the trolls who anonymously email wilwheaton.net might not be wrong. And when they are wrong, his phaser is set to k- ... no, I can't.The book was originally published in, I believe, 2004 (before his deeply creepy appearance on Criminal Minds), so it's especially nice to read it knowing that Wil Wheaton is not only a staple of "Big Bang Theory" but also the perpetual president of OASIS, and deservedly so. "Just a Geek"? Nah, honey. You're King of the Geeks (or at least the Vice President). And it's great.

Read this book in just two days - it was that good. What I love about Wheaton's writing is his raw honesty. I'm not sure if I can bare my soul like that, but Wheaton did, and we are the better for it.How frightening it is that a few decisions in our youth - done out of immaturity and lack of experience - could push into a course that we never would have expected? How many of us was in Wheaton's position? How many of us lived what he lived?By sharing his story, Wheaton teaches us that we should never take anything for granted (family, health, career, tiny blessings), and that despite crushing defeat and reaching the lowest point in your life, you can bounce back AND discover a talent you never knew you had. For Wheaton, it was writing.Some reviewers complain that he whines about his trials and tribulations in Hollywood too much. When it comes to reading memoirs, one of the most important approaches I take is not to judge the writer's journey. The writer's interpretation of life events could differ from yours and that's the point - we learn from different views. And even if I were to judge Wheaton's journey, I would say that he had every right to be upset about how things turned out. Acting was his life, passion and reason for being and the gatekeepers are keeping him away from it because of (what I could see from the book anyway) rather frivolous and unfair reasons. But the crucial difference with Wheaton was that instead of sitting back and wallowing in his misery, he did something about it. He started a now-wildly-popular website, honed his writing and learned from his mistakes.I'm glad that things have improved for Wheaton since the writing of this book. He's acted on several shows since then (the crazy popular Big Bang Theory, for one), has become a cultural icon, and continue to improve in his writing.Well, done, Mr. Wheaton!

This may not be the only Instant Pot cookbook you'll ever need (that's up to you to decide) but it does offer a wide variety of recipes (200 in all) for every taste. Carnivores and Vegetarians will both find it useful. It has everyday American fare like Barbecue Baked Beans and Chicken Noodle Soup, and international dishes like Palek Paneer and Beef Pho. The book itself is beautiful, printed on glossy white paper, with many photos. The colors and font are easy to read, even for my older eyes. The stitched binding allows it to lay flat when open. Recipes are easy to read and follow, with complete, clear directions for the novice or IP pro. Chapters include the usual suspects, plus Vegetarian (meatless mains) and Pantry (broths, sauces, jams, pickles and more). There is no Index, but all recipes are listed in the ToC, under their chapter headings. Extensive cooking charts are in the back of the book. I've cooked three recipes so far, and found them easy to follow with good results. I especially liked the Salade Nicoise with Oil-Packed Tuna on page 142. Cooking the potatoes, eggs and green beans together and using our favorite olive-oil packed tuna makes this a quick take on the classic salad. This is a good thing, as my husband asked me to add it to our regular rotation.I wasn’t sure how to classify this cookbook, as classic, with familiar recipes, or modern, with many interesting combinations. I think it’s a little of both. It has a large number of basic recipes including boiled eggs (soft or hard), yogurt, basic beans, basic rice, and so on. It also has classic non-adventurous recipes for things like split pea soup, Mexican rice, cream of tomato soup, ground beef chili, penne with marinara sauce, cod with lemon-dill sauce, honey-mustard chicken wings, a rotisserie-style chicken, smothered pork chops, shepherd’s pie, beef stew, green beans amandine, creamed corn, and many more. Most of the recipes in the chapters dealing with sides and desserts will be familiar to everyone. The book also includes a lot of modern and international recipes that may not appeal to the classic meat-and-potatoes crowd.Many of the recipes are an interesting riff on the classic, but not too far off, so don't let the titles put you off. I don’t mind making substitutions, but when it comes to cooking on the fly and making things up based on what’s in my pantry, I’m not there yet. I prefer to work from a master recipe, using ingredients that I’m pretty confident will work in place of a listed ingredient. This is especially true when pressure cooking, where wholesale substitutions might affect the outcome. I think most of the more interesting recipes in this cookbook are like that, not markedly different from familiar recipes. The instructions throughout this book are so complete, making no assumptions about your cooking skills, that making substitutions will be easy for all but the most timid cook. For example, the Rosemary-Dijon Pot Roast differs from classic Pot Roast only in the selection of rosemary and dijon mustard for seasoning and shallots instead of onions. It would be no big thing to use your favorite seasonings in place of the rosemary and mustard, and a sliced small onion in place of the shallots. Another example; Macaroni and Cheese with Gouda and Caramelized Onions. For a classic Mac and Cheese, substitute your favorite easy melting cheese(s) for the Gouda, omit the butter and onion, and forget about the Saute step (it's used for cooking the onion).So I would say it has something for everyone, although I am absolutely certain that there will be some reviews claiming that all of the recipes use weird, hard-to-find ingredients, and others claiming that the recipes are too basic and not interesting enough. But this is true of every cookbook sold on Amazon, isn't it? Note: I purchased this cookbook at a warehouse store, prior to Amazon's release date.

Full disclosure, I was one of several secondary recipe testers on this book. Out of dozens of recipes that I made from the book, these are a few of my favorites: Roasted Red Pepper & Goat Cheese Frittata (p. 31), Cinnamon Swirl Bundt Cake (p. 40), Mac & Cheese with Gouda & Carmelized Onions (p. 65), Pepperoncini Pot Roast (p. 223). The recipes are easy to follow, and are made from fresh ingredients. This book & the Instant Pot are truly made for each other.

If you’re a new or veteran instant pot user this cookbook will help you regardless. It is categorized perfectly into breakfast, vegetables/sides, poultry etc. the instructions are clear enough that even a novice instant pot use can follow.The best part is the recipes are tried and true if you follow them exactly. So far I’ve made the pumpkin stew cut oats, the chicken noodle soup, the pork loin with apples and they have all been nothing short of spectacular.I hate to admit I’ve purchased several instant pot cookbooks all of which I’ve returned within a week because I was unhappy with the recipes and instructions. This book is different. Not only am I keeping it. But I’ve been telling anyone who owns an instant pot to get one.

Just got this book and loving it already. There’s a huge variety of recipes. It’s lole a one stop shop for recipes. You want to Cooke something in the Instant Pot? You’ll find a recipe on here that you’ll love. Really like how the recipes include the amount of time for the Instant Pot to come up to pressure. Can’t wait to try more of the recipes. If you’re new to the Instant Pot or you’ve had one for a while, this is THE book to get!

I just received my copy of Coco Morante’s gorgeous book, The Ultimate Instant Pot Cookbook, and combed through it page by succulent page, tasting each recipe in my mind as I went. I am already obsessed with this book! I honest-to-God salivated over every recipe... even the vegetarian/vegan chapter, because they are all just scrummy masterpieces. Trust me when I tell you I have just about every Pressure Cooker cookbook on the market that had reasonable reviews. There are a few duds in my collection, but THIS ONE is going to be well loved and well used. The recipes are nicely organized and laid out, with clear concise instructions. And the book itself is substantial and quality made with thick pages and abundant, glossy, to-die-for photographs. Honestly, it’s the Holy Grail of pressure cooker cookbooks. I love it so much, I went immediately to Amazon and downloaded the Kindle format version too. I am recommending this book to all my friends. If you only splurge on one Instant Pot cookbook, this is the one you want in your collection. Kudos, Coco, for a truly special achievement.

Purchased this cookbook for my daughter to use with her new Instant Pot. Lots of good beginner info, which my daughter is. And some really good recipes with exact directions. It’s a hardcover and has nice pages and photos.

The second book is equally charming, funny and surreal. Both books are told in short story snippets that add up into a story greater than the sum of its parts. Definitely buy both books, so that you can get more enjoyment out of visiting a school that has bear-ed up security (bears with fists that double as bazookas). Marvel at the poetic entrances of Team Feety-Pajamas (a very funny though affectionate riff on a certain Pokemon villain squad). And watch the students battle against tyranny when the school "bans love and cancels fun."Seriously, folks, this is great for all ages. A great antidote to the grim-and-gritty world of comics that have forgotten fun. The art is unique, loose and cute as all get-out. The writing is sharp. And Senor Panda (still not extinct!) is the best Spanish teacher anyone could ask for.

It's the type of book a kid re-reads, as if visiting a friend.

My 7-year-old enjoyed this book a ton! We did not know there is an earlier one and it makes sense just by itself, but I'd recommend to get both.

Excellent graphic novel! We were lucky enough to have Dave Roman come to our school. His books are hilarious and the kids love them!

My son is 7 years loved this book! If you kids are in to astronauts and and comics this is a great book! We highly recommend it and are hoping to see a whole series of these books written! My son can't wait to read more. He read both books. We would love to also see some products to purchase related to the book.
